Get started with Quickbooks Online

Introduction

QuickBooks Online ( affiliate link)  is a great program for small businesses. It’s automatic, effortless, and does the math for you. However, it can only be as effective as the information you put into it. That’s why it’s important to customize QuickBooks Online with the right types of accounts and classes so you can get the most out of your software. If you are self-employed, you may want to start with QuickBooks Self-employed. Here are some tips on how to get started using QuickBooks Online efficiently and effectively:

Add your bank accounts.

QuickBooks Online makes it easy to import your bank accounts into the app. You can do this in one of two ways:

  • Import accounts from a CSV file.
  • Import accounts from an Intuit account.
  • Import directly from your bank’s app directly

You can always add new Accounts later when you need them.

If you’re not sure which accounts to add right now, don’t worry—you can always add them later. You don’t have to set up all your business accounts at once, and there is no “right way” to do it.

Track your money with the Dashboard reports

There are many ways to track your business finances and make sure you’re on top of things. One of the easiest ways is with QuickBooks Online’s Dashboard reports.

The Dashboard is a great way to get a quick overview of how your business is doing financially and can help you spot trends or potential issues, like slow-moving inventory or customers who haven’t paid their bills in two months.

Add or Update Categories

You’ll want to update or add new categories for the items you tend to buy regularly like office supplies and business expenses – items that come up on a weekly or monthly basis. As a small business owner, it’s important to track your income and expenses so that you can stay profitable.

Conclusion

I hope these tips have helped you get started with QuickBooks Online. QuickBooks Online is a great way to keep track of your business expenses and make sure that you’re meeting all your accounting obligations. I know that setting up can sometimes be confusing, but once you get going there are plenty of features that will help make your life easier!

Facing the Numbers with QuickBooks

Facing the Numbers with QuickBooks

So often in our day to day activities, we are all go and never take the time to stop and evaluate. It’s ok and it’s not to late to stop for a second and take inventory. A big part of my inventory process is to take about an hour or so to go over my numbers . It’s easy to think about how much money you’ve made, but it feels even better to know for a fact where you stand. Today I took some time to look over my reports in Quickbooks.

I haven’t looked at my numbers since June, so I had transactions to review and quite a few transactions that i needed to import, categorize and organize. I can’t lie, I got a little overwhelmed and frustrated. I simply did not want to do it. I wanted to put it off until tomorrow, or better yet , wait until it’s time to submit taxes. Once i got started, I felt better. I got a chance to see all of my income sources, top customers, and get a feel for how much I spent and where it was spent.

The process doesn’t have to be that difficult. If you don’t have an accounting system set up , I would encourage you to use the steps below to get set up quickly in Quickbooks.

    1. Sign up for a Quickbooks Self-Employed account. If you have employees, please choose the plan that works best for your needs.

2.) Add your Bank Account(s)

3. Organize your transactions . You can separate your business and personal transactions and also organize them by category.

If you start to get overwhelmed or already feel overwhelmed at the thought of taking on the task of facing the numbers and getting organized, it’s totally normal. Take a breath and take one step at a time. If you need additional direction and support, take a look at the video below that will help you get set up for success.
